Chianti Classico DOCG

The appellation of origin Chianti Classico DOCG is reserved for red wines produced in the oldest area of Chianti, straddling the provinces of Florence (30,400 hectares) and Siena (41,400).

DOCG Chianti Classico must have at least 80% of Sangiovese grape, a grape very sensitive to external factors and has the ability to modify its scents depending on the soil in which it is grown. Chianti Classico has the floral bouquet proper to the sandstone soil of this area, with aroma of berries that comes from the calcareous component of the soil.

The types provided for by the denomination are the Chianti Classico, the Chianti Classico Riserva and the Chianti Classico Gran Selection. The types offer an aging of increasing duration, limited to one year for the basic type, 24 months for the reserve and 30 months for the Grand Selection.
